Rancho Esperanza is an authentic and affordable eco hostel located along Jiquilillo's stunning coastline. Here at the Rancho, our guests will be welcomed by our incredible staff who are available to plan daily activities and adventures! We offer a variety of accommodations, from dorm beds to raised ocean view casitas with private decks, facilities, and hammocks

High speed WiFi is available across Rancho Esperanza for all our guests needs: Zoom Meetings, Emails, Streaming, etc!
Fresh Cooked Meals
We offer cheap and delicious homemade dishes for every meal, cooked by our wonderful chef, Ana. Guests' dietary restrictions can be taken into account.
Purified Drinking Water
We provide bottled water from a 5-gallon refillable dispenser in the common area of the Rancho for your safety and convenience. You may also get a dispenser in your room for a small fee if you wish.
Boat Service to El Salvador
Backpacking up Central America? Rancho Esperanza will connect you to a pleasant, fully planned, affordable boat service across the Gulf of Fonseca with Mario, a boat operator. On whatsapp at +503 7282 4362.
Beach Access
Rancho Esperanza is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Nicaragua. All guests have direct access to the beach, as well as surfboards, bodyboards, surf lessons, and other beach activities.
Bug Nets
Much of the year, bugs aren't bad at the Rancho, but for your comfort all our beds can be equipped with bug nets.
Adventures & Activities
Rancho Esperanza offers guided and non-guided adventures for our guests. These include kayaking, surfing, volcano hikes & volcano-boarding, bioluminescent estuary tours, releasing baby turtles and more!
Social Spaces
The Rancho has a communal, central palapa near the kitchen with tables benches, and hammocks for social activities like board games, meals, and classes. We are looking forward to rebuilding our full two-story rancho structure soon!
Surf Rentals and Classes
Our beginner friendly beach break gets consistent waves that are great for learning. We rent surf boards, and we can connect you with local surf instructors for lessons. For more information, take a look here.

How do I get here?Getting to Rancho Esperanza is possible both by bus and taxi. From Chinandega, the buses to Jiquilillo leave from "El Mercadito". The bus service to Jiquilillo is excellent and friendly; just ask the ayudante (attendant) to stop at “Rancho Esperanza”. The price is 25 Cordobas and travel time is approximately 1.5 hours to 2 hours. We are located on the left side of the road. For more information visit our location page

What is there to do?At Rancho Esperanza we offer a wide variety of adventures and activities that our incredible staff are happy to arrange for you. These include surfing (lessons available), kayaking, hiking volcanoes (and volcano boarding down them!), bioluminescent estuary tours, releasing sea turtles, and more. Visit our activities page for more information. Alternatively, if you'd prefer a more relaxing stay, we have board games, beach access, and a lovely social space for our guests at the Rancho.

Is it safe?Rancho Esperanza is incredibly safe and every accommodation can be locked. The surrounding area is also very safe for both families and solo travelers alike.

What if I have dietary restrictions?Our wonderful cooking staff is happy to work around dietary restrictions (as much as possible) as long as notice is provided in advance. Vegan and Vegetarian options are very normal, and for more specific dietary needs, there is a small market close by.
